Rainbow students exist in all New Zealand schools, yet they endure hardship due to poor attempts by schools to normalise diversity. Youth’12 reported that one in five rainbow students attempt suicide. There are no mandated regulations to ensure the protection of rainbow students — some call this an archaic attitude.
